Development Soccer Program (DSP)
Note: coaches are asked to review this with the parents at the first team meeting.
1- Always have fun: this will help you to play and learn better.
2- Practice Fair Play: honesty, fairness and respect.
3- Referees: never criticize a referee.
4- Opponents: congratulate your opponent before your teammates.
5- Team: be there and be on time (or early).
6- The game: always give your best effort.
7- Be prepared: wear soccer cleats, soccer socks and shinguards.
8- Bring your own water, don’t pass around water bottles.
1- Support the team in its efforts to provide a positive atmosphere where children can learn and make mistakes with no stress to win.
2- Encourage players, coaches and opponents in their efforts to learn and applaud good performance by all, including referees.
3- Leave coaching to the coaches (or be willing to volunteer and take the DSP training courses and clinics).
4- Never criticize referees, players or coaches.
5- If a problem arises, please try to resolve it cooperatively: firstly with the coach, then with your DSP Site convenor. Should this not resolve the problem, the VP DSP will be the next step.
Coach:
1- Accept and promote the DSP Philosophy and Coaching Principles.
2- Recognize your responsibility to ensure that the players have fun.
3- Enlist the parents to help (don’t do everything yourself).
4- All coaches to be active in the program.
5- Be positive and constructive.
6- Be on time and prepared.
7- Always both demonstrate and teach Respect, Fair Play and Cooperation.
8- Learn the laws of the game as amended by DSP.
9- Communicate with players and parents.
